This is a nice visualization of 60 years in music history with sound. 🎼 Title Scream is a gallery of something good from the 90s with game design from 8/16 Bit games.

BAD UI GAME 🤩 TRACKING TRACKERS 🦶8/16BIT DESIGN 🤩

Heya,

I took an unscheduled week off to spend time with my family. As you can imagine, I was very, very keen to return to the office.

This week I have links that help you find the best era for music or game design. Perfect for civil discussion across generations. Spoiler: Skip the 80s when it comes to music. It's too bland for me.

A cool tool that helps you cheat your way through meetings, and another that helps you keep the trackers in check.

A "great" "game" exploring bad UI and design. Seriously, it is super annoying but fun. Just use an old mouse. One that has throwability written on it.

Enjoy,

Chris.

🕸️ The Cool Side of the Web

This is a nice visualization of 60 years in music history with sound. 🎼

You can see the Billboard Top 5 for every week between October 18th, 1958 and April 13th, 2019. My most exciting 'discovery' was Eddie Murphy reaching the cusp of #1. For a song.
Having said that, I feel the 80s is the most skippable era. If you take INXS and U2 out of the 80s there's not much left.

It's like a digital cave wall with type and graphic design you will never see again, largely because the contravene every surgeon general's warning ever made about visual content. Still...Double Dragon.

If you're more sophisticated, then this experiment with a variety of tools and the alphabet is a perfect palette cleanser.

Few stories of icons are bigger than the smiley face. Turns out it is a little more complicated than just wiping mud off your face.

For me, the highlight is the image of a grumpy guy surrounded by smiley faces.

It took my colleague 30 mins to finish User Inyerface. The worst practices in UI all in one spot.

This is really, really awful and amazing. It's an "exploration of user interactions and design patterns" made into an excruciating experience. It arrived at the same time as this investigation into the dark patterns at play on 11k eCommerce sites.

Be inspired or appalled.
